Mark Romanek continues his prolific collaboration with Jay Z, this time directing the Grammy-nominated “Picasso Baby,” Jay Z’s performance art film shot over six hours at the Pace Gallery in Chelsea. The two first collaborated on Jay Z’s multi-award-winning video “99 Problems,” and more recently on branded content for Samsung and Jay Z’s “Magna Carta Holy Grail.” New Yorker art critic Jerry Saltz wrote a fun, insightful piece about the “Picasso Baby” shoot HERE. Romanek also directed the Grammy-winning video “Hurt,” for the late Johnny Cash.

New Yorker art critic Jerry Saltz on the “Picasso Baby” shoot: “Maybe I was smitten by fame. I stayed for just about the whole six hours, and all I can say is that I don’t think I saw one instance where Jay-Z was not totally there, in the moment, working the energy.”
