Prolific Brazilian filmmaker and award-winning commercial director Vellas has expanded his relationship with Anonymous Content to include branded content, commercial and music video representation in the US and UK, after originally joining Anonymous Content’s Brazilian division last year as both a director and Partner.
Known for his cinematic scale, visceral storytelling, and striking visual craft, over the past decade, Vellas has directed more than 150 global campaigns for brands including Nike, Apple, Coca-Cola, Leica, Ubisoft, Ford, Citroën, O2, Mitsubishi, Renault, and Rémy Martin, earning top honors from the industry’s most prestigious festivals, including Cannes Lions, D&AD, Clios, and Ciclope.
As a filmmaker, Vellas enjoys shooting complicated action sequences and integrated VFX but also values minimalist storytelling, particularly when paired with his signature gritty and visceral directing style.
His recent campaigns with Anonymous Content include spots for VW, a “Stranger Things” tie-in for McDonalds, and a “Bridgerton”-inspired film for AmBev’s Brutal Fruit, one of the first major spots to result from AB InBev and Netflix’s global partnership.
Last year, his music video for BK’s “Diamantes, Lágrimas e Rostos para Esquecer” was nominated for Best Music Video at the Latin Grammy Awards and is currently nominated for Direction at the M-V-F Awards in Brazil.
“We’re excited to support his vision and continue to scale his voice across commercial, music, and long-form spaces in the US, UK and Brazil,” says Anonymous Content Partners, Managing Director and Executive Producer Eric Stern.
In 2023, his short film Shout received more than 100 international awards, including seven Lions at Cannes. His campaign #shutupdeath for Médecins du Monde also garnered multiple accolades, including a Bronze Film Craft Lion. His breakout project, the black-and-white Leica short Soul, earned multiple awards at Cannes Lions, D&AD, and the Clio Awards and was featured in the prestigious Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase.
Vellas began his career as an art director before transitioning to directing, eventually founding the production company Saigon in 2014.
In addition to commercial work, Vellas credits include shorts and branded content for Google and Movistar, as well as directing episodes of series “Arcanjo Renegado” (2020) for Globoplay; directing the third and final season of “Dom” (2024) for Prime Video; and episodes of the second season of “Criminal Code” (2025) for Netflix.
He is currently developing two television series and two feature films, including the mystery thriller Uma Garota de Class, based on real events, for Netflix.
